Breda University of Applied Sciences

Senior R&D Programme Manager and Lab Coordinator (0.8-1FTE)

You are passionate about serious games, simulations and immersive media and would love to apply this to Marine Spatial Planning, Ocean Governance, Offshore Renewables or Marine Ecology. Use your skills to connect students, industry and colleagues during the Cradle projects (Cradle is the research and development lab at Breda University of Applied Sciences (BUas)). As a Senior R&D Programme Manager (0.8-1FTE) you will be working near the city centre of Breda, on a green, sustainable and high-tech campus at a top-ranked academy interconnected with the industry. Are you ready to co-lead the development of serious games and immersive media innovations?

About our Research & Development (R&D) programme
The R&D programme on Digital Realities is organised in three professorships: Serious Games, Entertainment Games and Immersive Media. Together, this team of 24 enthusiastic researchers, engineers, designers and developers work in our Cradle R&D lab (see https://cradle.buas.nl) on state-of-the-art innovations in key areas such as Serious and Entertainment Games, Simulations, Digital Twins, Virtual Humans, Virtual Productions, and Immersive Media (VR, AR). We design, engineer, apply, and study these innovations to address societal challenges in energy, climate, ecology, health, broad prosperity, journalism, safety, education and more. Our national and international R&D projects are externally funded by the EU, NWO (Dutch Research Council), SIA (Taskforce for Applied Research) and other organisations, and we work with many regional, national and international partners in industry, universities, governments and society.

One key R&D area is the successful Maritime Spatial Planning (MSP) Challenge simulation platform (www.mspchallenge.info) which combines with the EU Green Deal ILIAD Digital Twins for the Ocean (DITTO) initiative. For this platform, in particular, we are recruiting a Programme Manager and Lab Coordinator.

About this job
As an R&D Programme Manager and Lab Coordinator you combine your technical knowledge and expertise with a good understanding of the human and social-political dimension of decision making. You manage the Maritime Spatial Planning (MSP) Challenge simulation platform.

A significant part of the work will focus on the programme and project management of the externally funded MSP Challenge/DITTO projects, including their technical development in the years to come. You will also work with external R&D partners, in the Netherlands, in Europe and beyond. Excellent social and communication skills and a willingness to travel are therefore required. A demonstrated professional background in and ‘a passion for’ innovations involving AI, games and media technology is required.

Your tasks and activities will include:

  • Contributions to interactive sessions, such as serious game sessions, workshops, hackathons.

You love to work with experts and students and enjoy the benefits of working in an educational environment. BUas aims to create a stimulating workplace for both students and staff, to enable them to integrate knowledge and skills, to develop their talents to the fullest and apply these to society in a professional and responsible manner.
